Kiln & Clay
Kiln & Clay, inside the studio

One wheel, one kiln, no shortcuts

Lead-free, food-safe glazesSmall-batch since 2019Every piece kiln-tested

Kiln & Clay is June Park's one-woman studio by the French Broad River. Every piece is thrown on the wheel, glazed by hand, and fired in a kiln she built with her father. No molds, no outsourcing, about sixty pieces a month.

The studio sits by the French Broad River, in a converted garage with one wheel, one kiln, and a wall of test tiles. June throws in runs of a dozen: enough to keep a rhythm, few enough that every piece gets finished by hand.

The glazes are mixed in-studio from recipes chased over years: a fog white that breaks warm at the rim, a speckled buff that shows the clay underneath. Nothing is bought in a bucket.

Pots are meant to be used. Chips, patina, glaze wearing thin at the lip of a favorite mug: that is the work doing its job.

How it's made

  1. Thrown. On the wheel, in runs of a dozen. No molds.
  2. Glazed. Dipped and brushed by hand; every batch mixed in-studio.
  3. Fired. Cone 6 in the kiln June built. Two days to cool before the lid opens.

Are the glazes food-safe?

Yes. Every glaze is lead-free and fired to cone 6. Dishwasher and microwave safe, though handwashing keeps the finish longest.

Why do pieces vary from the photos?

Each one is thrown and glazed by hand, so tone and speckle shift piece to piece. That variation is the point: you get the only one like it.

Do you take custom or wholesale orders?

A few custom runs a year, announced to the list first. Wholesale inquiries are welcome for small shops.

How is it packed for shipping?

Wrapped in recycled paper and shipped in double-walled boxes. Breakage is rare, and always replaced free.

How fast do orders ship?

In-stock pieces leave the studio within three business days. Shipping is $9 flat, free over $100.

Can I return a piece?

Within 30 days, yes, as long as it comes back unbroken. If it arrives damaged, photo it and a replacement fires in the next run.

How should I care for unglazed areas?

Bare clay at the foot or rim likes a quick hand-dry after washing. It will darken slightly with use. That patina is the pot living its life.

Where can I see the work in person?

Studio pickup Saturdays 10–2 at 112 Riverside Dr, and at the seconds sale every August.
